1988   Gene's Political Career    2006

2006

Honk when you see him...

2006

Contemplating another run is always a mental challenge to determine whether or not Marylanders really want fiscal responsibility in their government or not.  It seems every problem is solved by throwing more of our money to the trial lawyers, and now insurance companies because they contribute big bucks or local legislative candidates just for that purpose.
Only one effective way to save money is to quit giving it away under false pretenses or to scam artists with lotteries and guaranteed returns if you could just help out with processing moneys.
Well, I noted that votes mean more than money and media means less than blogging.  I hope you will all review my
CoffeeTalks for laughs and punditry before you give up on my making another run.
Beating prostrate cancer and winning several pro se cases gives me real confidence that we can turn Maryland into a Republican state.  Where I fit in is up to you voters who never put your name on a ballot; but would like to see us take Maryland to some legitimate heights.

2002

Think about Gene Zarwell's positions for Maryland.  A strong advocate of the people's rights with regard to spending your money.  He has operated as CFO for several startups, a mortgage lender to low income families, and successful litigation in State and Federal courts. He's a director of several companies worldwide on four continents.  And, he has political experience in State and National campaigns for himself and others. Contemplate some issues that will make your head spin.

2002 Primary Election Result
2002 General Election Results

Zarwell files for Comptroller race again.  He stated that he really wanted to file for Governor, but found he had the same problem the other candidates had,  it is difficult to recruit a Lieutenant Governor.  He asked Party Chairman, Mike Steele to interview a candidate for preliminary screening, but later learned his choice would challenge both popular candidates choices, so the chairman abandoned his role to became the lieutenant governor candidate.
In a State where the house needs to be cleaned - nobody wants to do it.  One thing Maryland doesn't need is more lawyers making laws that lawyers can capitalize on.  In "my world - the private sector- government bureaucrats call it conflict of interest and insider trading, but in their world it's time for sovereign immunity.", he said.
Now, Lawyers think they can be accountants and negotiators in the public interest.  "I haven't found that to be       reality", Zarwell added.

1998

In the run for Comptroller for Maryland, Gene ran on Louis Goldstein's legacy of fairness and frugality.  His fiscal philosophy is fairly conservative.
In that race he introduced his $ million bill that has become his trademark around the globe

He challenges outrageous government spending and helps create anti-cyclical cash flows in diverse ventures.

He favors accountability of allocated funds; and expects Public Officials to take responsibility for apporpriated monies.

Through tough negotiations and litigations, has has learned the goevernment's attitude of "soverign immunity" gets in their way for trustworthiness with public funds.

Another lesson learned was that law in Maryland is only for those who get caught rather than to prevent intent to commit violations on the books.

1996

Having been out of politics in 1994, he entered the Maryland Fifth District primary for Congress.

The field was four and he came in third on a very frugal campaign for name recognition only.  His issues were tested for the Presidential race.  They included, tax exemptions for overtime pay, vacation pay and second job pay.

1992

In a field of 15 Gene finished fifth.  You had to kneel on the floor to vote the for him because of his last initial "Z".  His knowledge of politics and art of campaigning was mirrored by all the others in that race.

It was like they all expected to lose with mediocrity and were threaten by quality and knowledge.

Mid-stream, Gene had lost his campaign manager to a heart attack.  With help from a good friend, his campaign continued without funding and he beat all but three of 15 candidates.

1988

Entering politics was not only a childhood dream, it became a real possiblity with encouragement from Senator Bob and Elizabeth Dole.

Seven other incumbent senators joined in with John Hienz coaching and support; and with the help of eight county chairmen he was one of two candidates in a special election.

That move allowed him an opportunity to set some goals.
